The Surrounding Areas

Choosing Levanto as a base it is possible to easily visit the Cinque Terre. By train it will only take a few minutes to reach the small villages.

Levanto offers numerous activities; from surfing ( it is a place much loved by surfers), walks along the paths, and for those that love biking a beautiful bike path made from the old train tracks that will bring you to Bonassola, and Framura, along this path you can find artisans shops and local products typical of Liguria.

Levanto is is full of interesting historical sites; like the “Grottesche” ,  the “Loggia Medievale” and the antic “Torre dell’Orologio”.

We also recommend a visit to the cathedral of “San Andrea” the lunette above the entrance door is a fresco from the 400s.

Walking along the antic wall of the town you can reach the Castle of Levanto. From here it is possible to reach the sea, and “La Pietra” the dock where the ferries leave from.

The Sea

Levanto has a nice sized beach  loved by surfers for it’s big waves.

From the station it is easy to reach the National Park of the Cinque Terre, in a few minuets you can be in Monterosso and its’ famous beach the “Gigante”.

Local Markets

For those who love shopping and antic fairs we recommend some typical markets.

  • Antic Market in Chiavari, this market is held every second Sunday of the month with numerous exhibitors, you could spend a whole day wandering  along antic Ligurian streets finding antic treasures.
  • Antic Market in La Spezia is held on the first Sunday of every month.
  • Weekly Market in Levanto every Wednesday.
  • Weekly Market in Monterosso every Thursday.

Tour the “Lunigiana” from Castles to Ghosts.

The Lunigiana area is still widely unknown to mass tourism, it is the land of castles and this territory has more than 100 castles.

The most captivating is the “Fosdinovo” castle that is located in a very strategic place,  halfway between the “Apuane” Mountains, and the sea, and it is still inhabited by descendants of the  feudal  family “Malaspina” it was built in the Middle Ages.

Every castle has its’ famous ghost and on every visit you can hear their stories and feel their presence.
